Texas Salute To Military Service

The Texas Salute to Military Service (TSTMS) was started by a group of four veterans, who wanted to do something for those undergoing rehabilitation for injuries sustained while serving our great country.

More often than not, the wounded soldiers are forgotten when they return home.  They disappear into the medical world of doctors’ offices and lose touch with their communities.   The majority of their time is spend in rehabilitation; traveling to and from appointments, dealing with paperwork, in and out of hospitals.

TSTMS goal is to raise awareness of our injured veterans by bringing them out of the rehabilitation setting and into a Texas community for the weekend.  This unique trip raises awareness in the communities and allows the community to give a piece of normalcy back to these brave American heroes.

The wounded and their families are treated to an all-expense paid weekend trip to a city in Texas. Buses transport the group from the Warrior Transition Unit at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.  A welcoming parade awaits them at the host city; merchants, ROTC members, schools, veterans, volunteers and others wave and cheer as the buses arrive.

From that point on, the families enjoy a hotel stay, food and entertainment for the weekend.

Fundraising is accomplished throughout the year by a group of hard working volunteers.  Donations are tax deductible: TSTMS operates under the Bayshore VFW 501c3.

This year our event is to be held in Kemah, TX on November 4-6, 2011.  We hope to see you there!
